BISEOP MORAN’S ARRIVAL.
[press association telegram.] DUNEDIN, April 4.
Bisliop Moran, on arrival here, was met by the clergy and a large number of the laity of the diocese After the religious service the clergy presented an address of welcome. In addition to the ceremonies of welcome to Bishop Moran during the day a very large number of the congregation attended to-night to present an address, which was accompanied with the jireseutation of a purse of one thousand sovereigns. The Bishop made a lengthy reply, stating that he would use the money to advance the welfare of the Church, and making reference to his observations on the state of Ireland and of religion in Italy, he said the details of the outrages in Ireland were greatly exaggerated, and people were in a deplorably depressed condition, whilst he had found religion flourishing extremely in Italy, all the churches being full of worshippers, thus giving a contradiction to the statements of the decline of the church in that country.
