[eeutke’s telegrams.! LONDON, April 3. Fatal Collision at Sea.
Telegrams are to hand reporting that the steamers Yraracbat, 1558 tons, and Douro came into collision off the west coast of Spain, in the neighborhood of Capo Finisterre. Both vessels foundered, and thirty-five of the passengers and crew of the Douro were saved, and sixty-seven of those on board the Trure. ScullingThe sculling match between Hanlan and Boyd for £IOOO was rowed on the Tyne to-day, and resulted in a victory for the champion by four lengths. The contest is described as having been a hollow race, Hanlan winning without difficulty. Serious Loss of Life at SeaFurther telegrams are to hand regarding the collision of the steamers off the Spanish coast. It is now stated that 120 lives were saved from the Douro alono, but that the captain and officers perished. Both vessels had a large number of passengers on board, but the total loss of life has not yet been ascertained. CompromisedCharges of defrauding a money lender, which were preferred against the Marqnis of Huntley, for whose apprehension a warrant was issued in January last, have been withdrawn. More Shooting in IrelandInformation has been received to-day from Ireland to the effect that a Westmeath landlord named Smythe fired a.t and killed Mistress Smythe, a relative. The MarketsConsols have declined to 101-J. New Zealand securities remain at the following quotations:—Five per Gent. 10-4-0 Loan, 104; Five per Cent. 1889 Loan, 104^; Four and a Half per Cent, 1879-1904 Loan, 103. The market rate of discount has fallen to 2i per cent., and the Bask rata is 3 per cent. Adelaida wheat, ex warehouse, has advanced to 54s 6d’; New Zealand ditto remains at 51s. Adelaide flour, ox store, 37s 6d; Australian tallow, best mutton, has advanced to 425, and best beef to 455. The total stock of tallow in London on the Ist inst. was 63,000 casks. The latest advices to hand with regard to the loss of the steamships Druro and Traracbat, states that forty-six persons have lost their lives by the disaster. POINT DE GALLE, April 3. The Australian Eleven. The P. and O. Co.’s steamship Assam, homeward bound, with the Australian cricketers on board, arrived here to-day. With the exception of McDonald, who has been ill, but is now recovering, they are all in good health.
