THE EXHIBITION.
Certain unclaimed exhibits are lying at the railway ehoda awaiting claimants, viz, one box from Scfton, two boxes and one parcel from Dunedin, the owners of which are requested to attend to same without delay. The building presents a busy scone, and although the time is short, yet there are ample evidences that the opening day will disappdnt those who predict that it will come too early for many exhibitors. Still it all depends on the action of tho exhibit on themselves.
Tho flooring of tho concert room has boon completed, and also the space between the main entrance aod the entrance to the art gallery, goods being now unladen on to tho trollies at the gateway. As regards the volunteers’ action on the occasion of opening the exhibition, the 0.Y.0. will form a mounted guard of honor to his Excellency the Governor, escorting him from his residence to the entrance of the Exhibition Building, where a guard of honor will be drawn up to receive him, A double line of volunteers will extend from the entrance to the dais, around which the cadets will form a body guard to his Excellency. Suoh of the Christchurch exhibita aa are already on view are most creditable to tl e exhibitors, and compare favorably with like exhibits in the British and other courts. Tho plasterers A great variety of different articles will be distributed as the procession marches along the ftraots, all illustrative of the plasterers’ art. They are being manufactured at the workshops of Mr A. Menzies, Tnam street, by his men and apprentices after the usual hours of work. It is to be remembered that they have set themselves to make over a thousand different articles for free distribution, and some of these are really fine specimens of the plasterers’ art, consisting as they do of well executed busts of the Queen, tho late Prince Consort, Napoleon 111., and other well-known note-blea, besides an endless variety o( flower specimens, ns well as a spat ial cast in honor of the pr imotera of tho Exhibition, with the appropriate words “International Exhibition. Christchurch. Welcome to Joubert and Twopeny.” Too much praise cannot be given to the plasterers for the heartiness and liberality with which they have responded to the desire of the promoters to make the precession a thoroughly representative and successful display of the various trades of the colony.
