At an ir quest on the body of Henry Franklin, found hanging on a tree at Wainui by a saddle strop attached to his neck, a verdict cf “Suicide while in an unsound mind” was returned. Deceased and his brother were bushmen. They had trsakfast together, and went to work as usual. During the morning deceased went off by himself, and was not found till his brother, going homo in tho evening, saw him hanging. He was quite dead. His feet were only 4in from the ground.

The first directors until the annual meeting ore tho Hon. William Clifford, of Vernon, Marlborough ; Charles Bed wood, of Biversland, Marlborough ; and James Cook, of Wellington.
