Read the following : COPY OF REPORT. Melbourne International Exhibition, 11th April, 1881. To J. Oosmo Newbery, Esq., Superintendent of Juries and Awards. Sir, —According to your instructions we have made a practical test and thorough examination of the following Sewing Machines, viz , the Wheeler and Wilson, Jones and Co, Wertheim, and the Davis, and the results of our experiments are set forth hi the tabula - ted statement attached. We find that the Wertheim and Jones all of the Singer typo and similar in construction, and should be classed in the same order. The Wheeler and Wilson differs in construction, hut the results of our experiments are similar to the former named. As regards the DAVIS, we oannot but agree with the jury that it is very buperior to any of the others, and went through every test to our entire satisfaction. We therefore beg to recommend that the Machines be placed in the following order : FAMILY MACHINES. Ist, The Davis ; 3rd, Wheeler and Wilson, Jcnes and Co., Wertheim. HAND MACHINES.
