OHRIBTOHUEOE. Saturday, April 1. [Before R. Beetham, Esq , E M. - ] Dhunkbnness.—Mary Ann Patoman was fined 5s and ordered to pay Is 6d cab hire. For a first offence a man was fined 5s ; both, in default of payment, to be imprisoned for twenty.four hours.
Using Obboknb Languagb,—John Roche, for using obscene language within hearing of people passing in a public thoroughfare, was fined 10«, or, in default, forty-eight hours’ imprisonment with hard labor. Desbbting pboh H.M. Navy.—Jack Rose, who was arrested two months ago for deserting from H.M.S. Raleigh at Wellington in August, 1880, and who has since periodically made his appearance on remand, was again brought up. The police stated that the Miranda was expected to arrive at Lyttelton from Hobart sometime in the course of next week, when the prisoner would at once be put on board of her. He was further remanded for one week, the Magistrate saying that the commanding officer of the ship would be made acquainted with the circumstance of Rose’s long detention here.
