NAPIER, March 30. Te Maka RitiaThe Native prisoner Te Maka Ritia is to be discharged on April Ist by warrant from the Governor. Maka was one of the Chatham Island prisoners who escaped with Te Kooti, and acted as that rebel's executioner, in which capacity he murdered the friendly Native, acting under compulsion. Fever Ward. Owing to the Hospital being full, a portion of the barracks has been converted into a fever ward. Sunday Traffic. In reply to a deputation, the Bishop of Waiapu consented to send a strong representation to the manager of the Union Steamship Company with reference to making Napier a port of call on Sunday. NELSON, Maroh 30. Found Dead. A man named John Dermott was found dead in his bedroom at the Custom House Hotel this morning. Deceased went to bed at 7.30 last evening in his usual state of health, and on the servant going to call him to breakfast he was found dead. Dr. Rogers stated that death was caused from asthma and heart disease combined. No inquest was considered necessary. Deceased was wellknown on the West Coast, where he took great interest in mining matters. He was a brother of the late Dr. Dermott.

Alleged Child Murder.

Mary Jane O'Sullivan has been committed for trial by the ooroner's warrant to the Supreme Court at l>Sew Plymouth for the wilful murder of her illegitimate infant. The jury found she had caused its death by strangulation.
