CORRESPONDENCE
1.0.G.T.
To the Editor of the Olobe,
SlB, —A letter appears in your Saturday’s issue, signed “John H. Bristow, ship Roman Empire j” subject, “ Good Templarism.’’ Remarks are made as to things said to have been done in the Biinbow Lodge, No. 13, Lyttelton. As the letter is headed 1.0.Q.T., I deem it to ba my duty in the interest of the order to state that in the year 1873 Good Templary was instituted in Christchurch. The district now comprises the following Lodges :—Dauntless, No. 7 ; Hope of Christchurch, No. 8 ; Pioneer of Addington, No. 9 ; Southern Cross, No. 58 ; Pride of Sydenham, No. 200; Light of the Valley, Woolston, No. 23S ; New Victory, No. 245 ; Pride of Knightstown, No. 264; Advance, Papanui, No. 265 ; and to which has just been added the Sea Shell, No. 105, Lyttelton. The Rainbow, No. 84, Lyttelton, seceded some time ago. I may say that the lodges in this district never were working together more harmoniously, or ware belter conducted internally, than at the present time. The Independent Order of Good Templars has done, and is now doing, a good work in the community, and it would be a pity should it be brought into contempt by any such letters as the one in question. Yours, &0,,
JOHN BUXTON, Deputy Christchurch District 1.0. G T.
