Murray’s paddock, Tai Tapu. The weather was most enjoyable, tut the attendance, notwithstanding a large number from town, was rather small. The aport hardly oamo up to last year’s, for although good fields as a rule were coloured on the card, the finishes were not quite as close as we should like to have seen. However people appeared to thoroughly enj >y themselves, and the excellent Railway Band contributed not a little to enliven the intervals of racing. Mr Le Sueur was on the ground with his totalisator, but only something like £230 was put through the instrument. Mr Judge supplied a capital luncheon at a reasonable price. The officers of the club appeared to be thoroughly up to the business, and gave thorough satisfaction, (The following are the events in the order they were run : Handicap Hurdles of 20 sovs; two miles. At the home turn, before coming into the straight the first time round, Brown Bey baulked, when Johnny took up the running, and held it until reaching the straight run home, when the mare came with a rush, and won easily by two lengths. Tai Tapu Cup (Handicap), of 25 sovs ; two miles. Mr H. Piper’s cb g Supplejack, 9=t 101 b (W. Miller) 1 Mr Clayfield’s h g Albion. 10st ... (Sheenan) 2 Mr W. Parish’s hr h Terror, Bst 51b (Bosebaum) 0 Result, 9st 81b, and Kosciusko, 9st -41 b, were scratched. The totslisator showed 86 subscribers, 25 on the winner. A splendid start having been -at once effected, Supplejack and Terror cut out the running, followed by Albion and ‘Farewell. At the back of the course Supplejack still led, and Albion went up and took second place, Farewell third. The throe leading horses ran clear away from the others and finished in the order named, Supplejack winning with the greatest ease by four lengths. Maiden Plate of 10 sovs, one and a half miles. Mr T. Sheenan’s b h Kosciusko, 5 yra, 10st 31b (Owner) 1 Hr P. Connolley’s b m Maggie, 4 yrs, lOst (P. Bealy) 2 Mr J. Boake’a bg Grasshopper, aged, tOatSib (Deane) 3 Ake-Ake and Forest King were scratched. Grasshopper went away at a great pace, running clear away from the other two, and on passing the booths the first time still retained a strong lead. Shortly Grasshopper gave evidence of being pumped out, and Kosciusko and Maggie gradually drawing on him, got on terms at the home turn, and the two coming away raced up the straight, Kosciusko winning by a length. Trotting Handicap of 5 sots was won by E. Murfitt’s hell from scratch, hinting four others easily. Farmers’ Plate, 15 sovs, one and a half miles. Mr P. Connolly’s oh m Mischief, aged lOst 31bs (Healy) 1 Mr T. Sheenan’a b h Koscuisko, 5 yra, lOst 31ba (Owner) 2 Mr P. Connolley’s hi m Maggie, 4 yrs, lOtt (omith) 3 Black Pine and Ake Ake also ran. Brown Boy and Forest King were scratched. Ake Ake and Mischief cut out the running. In turning into the straight the first time round Mischief led, Maggie second, Kosciusko third, Ake Ake coming back to the remainder of the field. This order was reretained past the booths and round the back stretch. At the home turn Mischief still hold a strong lead, and Kosciusko closed on Maggie, and challenging her a good set to ensued between the two for second place, Mischief ultimately beating Kosciusko by three lengths, Maggie a very good third. _Maori Race, 5 sovs, one mile, won by Jack, beating Bine Peter and Maori Girl. Countt Handicap, of 20 sovs, two miles. Mr G. Mnnroe’s b g Black Fine, lOst 71b (Bright) 1 Mr T. Sheenan’s b b Kosciusko, lOst 101 b (Owner) 2 Brown Boy, Forest King, and Ake-Ake were scratched. Black Fine led for the first mile, when Sheenan went np and made the running. At the turn for home Black Fine again ran up, and challenging Kosciusko, came away and won by three lengths. A Hack Race, won by Nipper, beating five others, and a Consolation, won by Tommy, finished the meeting.
