DUNEDIN, March 17. University DegreesAt a meeting ot the University of Otago graduates and undergraduates to-night, to consider Sir &. M. O’Borke’s resolution re granting degrees without keeping terms, a motion was proposed protesting against such resolutions as being prejudicial to the interacts ot affiliated colleges and of the University of New Zealand, but an amendment to this was carried by eight votes to seven that no action bo taken. Mr Quin, master of the Benevolent Institution, is proceeding against Hitchcock for criminal libel, on account of a letter sent by Hitchcock to the chairman of the committee charging him with immoral conduct towards the female inmates of the institute. The Southland Tramway Company, adhering to their determination to run their cars on Sundays, tho cab drivers as a body announce their intention of plying for hire on Sundays as on tho week days. Hitherto they have never plied for hire on that day, or even barnested up unless by special order.
