AGRICULTURAL & PASTORAL ASSOCIATION.

A special meeting of the committee of the above association was held yesterday afternoon, at three o’clock, to consider the proposal to hold a show of fat stock, grain, roots, &0., during the progress of the Exhibition. The following gentlemen were present: —Mr W. Henderson, president (in the chair), Messrs Norman, K. Wilkin, Beans, Sutherland, Garfortb, Mcßeth, Bunoan, Anderson, jun., Bruce, Boag and Manning.

The Chairman read a letter from Mr John Ferguson, apologising for his absence, and expressing his willingness to do all in his power towards promoting a midwinter show. Mr Bruce said it should be understood that the show was intended as a feature of attraction to the visitors to the Exhibition, and not ns inaugurating a series of midwinter shows in the future.

Mr Sutherland thought it would be better, if the show were decided upon, that it should be held on the 24th May. He would move—- “ That a show of fat stock, grain, roots, &x, be held by the association some time during the progress of the Exhibition.” Mr Garfortb seconded the motion, but suggested that it would be better to fix either the day before or the day after the Queen’s Birthday, so as not to clash with the Grand National Steeplechase, Motion agreed to. The Chairman said that it had been suggested that a trial of hunters should be added to the other attractions of the show, and he thought this would be a very popular item. Mr Wilkin agreed, and also expressed his intention of exhibiting some Brittany cattle. The Chairman also mentioned that the butchers intended to have a grand display of dead meat after the show.

On the motion of Mr Wilkin, a sub-com-mittee was appointed to fix the date of the show, draw up a list of prizes, and make all the other necessary arrangements ; the committee to consist of the president and vicepresident, Messrs Garfortb, Ferguson, Norman, Beans, Bruos, Mann, and the mover, to report at the next meeting, to be held on the 31st inst.

It was arranged that the sub-committee should meet on Monday next, at two o’clock.
