NEW ZEALAND.

[PBB PESBS ASSOCIATION.] AUCKLAND, March 16. FireShortly after twelve o’clock last night, Roe's saw mill at Onehunga was burned. Two men, who were sleeping in the upper storey, had a narrow escape, being compelled to jump through the flames. The night watch states that shortly before twelve he passed in front of the building, which was apparently safe. On returning he discovered the whole front to bo burning, and there was no time to utilise the appliances on the premises for suppressing the fire. There being no fire service in Onehunga the fire burnt itself out. Fortunately the wind was blowing fresh from the north-east or the mill sheds and a portion of the town would have suffered. The mill and outbuildings were insured in the Colonial ofiloe for £650, but probably the loss to the company will not exceed £SOO. Mr Roe estimates the uninsured loss at £3OOO. Drainage. The Parnell Borough Council decided last night to adopt a drainage scheme to cost £BOOO. Some clothes on a chair near the door had evidently
