CHRISTCHURCH HUNT CLUB.

The annual general meeting of the members of the clnb was held on Tnesday evening at eight o’clock, at the rooms of Mr J. T. Ford, Cashel street. There were about twenty gentlemen present, and Mr H, A. Scott occupied the chair. The Chairman said the first business was the appointment of a huntsman. The committee had this matter nnder consideration, and Mr Kimball, to whom the task of selecting an eligible man had been depnted, had recommended the appointment of Mr Sam. On the motion of Mr Brown, seconded by Mr Wilkin, Mr Powell was appointed huntsman for the ensuing season, his engagement to date from the Ist April.

The Chairman reported that the committee had not made any definite arrangement with the Exhibition sports commiitee in reference to the proposal to hold a steeplechase meeting daring the Exhibition season, as tbe sports committee proposed that, as they were to provide the prises, they should have the whole of the proceeds. It was decided that the matter should be left in the hands of the committee, who shonld endeavour to come to an arrangement with the sports committee. The meeting then proceeded to elect the officers for the ensiling year. It was agreed that the committee should consist of seven members, as follows: —Messrs Scott, Kimball, Baker, Wilkin, Egan, Hayden, and Piper. Mr Egan proposed Mr Starkey as master of the honnds. Mr Starkey was a thorough sportsman, and conld afford to give more time to the duties than he (Mr Egan) had been able to do. Mr Kimball seconded the motion, which was carried unanimonsly. On the motion of Mr Kimball, seconded by Mr Thomson, Mr James Wilkin was elected treasurer.

Mr George O’Connell, who regretted his inability to continue to act as secretary, moved that Mr Penfold, the secretary of the C.J.C., be elected to tbe office. Mr Kimball and several other gentlemen present urged upon Mr O’Connell to again undertake the dnties of secretary, remarking that he had been the mainstay of the clnb. —Mr O’C.nnell was sotrv that he was unable, throngh business engagements, to give the necessary time to the duties of the office.

Mr Egan seconded the nomination of Mr Penfold, which was put and carried. On the motion of Mr Egan, seconded by Mr Thomson, the Hon. Ernest Gray, M.L.C., was elected president of the clnb. A hearty vote of thanks was passed <o the retiring Master of tbe Hounds for his successful management during the seven years he had held the office, and fer his exertions in providing sport ever since he had introduced honnds into the province. Mr Egan acknowledged tha vote. A cordial vote of thanks was also passed to Mr O’Connell, the retiring secretary, who was re-elected a member of the committee.

On the motion of Mr Egan, seconded by Mr Kimball, the hearty thanks of the Club were accorded to the farmers who had kindly allowed them to hunt over their properties. The following new members were elected : Messrs C. H. Turner, B. Lane, A. Caff, and E. Wilkin. A vote of thanks to tbe chairman c .included the proceedings.
