THE WAKANUI ELECTORATE.

[ FROM OUR CORRESPONDENT.] ASHBURTON, March 14.

Alfred Saunders addressed over 300 persons in the Town Hall last night. The chair was c ecupied by Mr Donald Williamson, the Mayor. Mr Saunders spoke for an hour and a half to an attentive audience, intimating that, if elected, he would act as an independent member. Mr J. C. Wason addressed the audience, and said that he withdrew from the candidature, and promised Mr Saunders his hearty support. The contest, therefore, lies between Mr Saunders and Mr Joseph Ivesa. A unanimous vote of thanks and confidence was accorded to Mr Saunders, there being but one dissentient.
