The volunteers and fire brigades turned out and the Mayor gave an address, and there will be a ball to-night. The Late Band Contest. The Scottish Band were presented with gold medals last night at a concert held for the purpose. The medals were the first prizes at the late band contest in Auokland. The Native Minister. The Hon. Mr Bryce is expeoted here at the end of the week. AUCKLAND, March 14. Fonnd DeadAn old woman, named Jano Bobertson, who had been living alone at Davenport, was found dead in her residenoe last evening, having evidently expired in a fit. She was last seen alive on Sunday morning. ■WELLINGTON, March 14. CommittedJules Craaar Huysman was committed for trial for forging and uttering a cheque valued £4. The Volunteer Commission. The Volunteer Land Scrip Commission leave for Auckland on Thursday, commencing its proceedings on Monday. OAMABU, Maroh 14. The Effects of Drink. A man named Peter McKonna, supposed to be from Makikihi, was caught in the oowcatcher of the engine of the special train bringing the mail last night near Oamaru, and so severely injured that be is not expeoted to live. He had been drinking, and had fallen across the railway line. DUNEDIN, March 14. The Eeported Seizure of Goods. There was no seizure in Esther and Low's premises, as reported, everything being found correot there.
