CHRISTCHURCH WESLEYAN MUTUAL IMPROVEMENT ASSOCIATION.

The 1882 session of this association was opened last evening, prior to which a moating of the members was held for the purpose of electing officers for the year, which resulted as follows-: —Preeident, Rev. B. Best; vicepresidents, Rev. W. Tinsley and Messrs Gabites and Allan ; treasurer, Mr A. Bell ; secretary, Mr H. J. Roes; editor, Mr H. Blaok; committee, Messrs Andrew, O. M. Gray, F, W. Hoddinott and England. The entertainment was commenced at eight o’clock by a pianoforte selection from Mr A. Bell, after which the Kev. A. Reid, the ex-president, delivered the inaugural address. A vocal duett by Mias Little and Mr. J, Allan followed, whioh was succeeded by s comic recitation from Mr Beauchamp, entitled “ The Story of Fred. Bowler.” Mr H. J. Rose then presented an illuminated address to the Rev. A. Reid, from the pen of Mr Goodman, whioh was as follows:—“Christchurch Wesleyan Mutual Improvement Association to the Rev. Alexander Reid. Rev. and dear Sir—Upon your removal from Canterbury, and consequent retirement from the position of president of our association, wo desire to express our grateful sense of the many advantages we have derived during the throe years you have occupied the presidential office. Tour constant presence at our meetings, the clear, concise, and scholarly treatment of subjects under discussion, and the warm interest manifested by you, have mainly cootributod to the success we have attained. While regretting your departure from amongst us, we believe it will be for others’ welfare, and pray that God will bless you and make you a blessing.” Signed on behalf of the asaooia. tion by the officers. The Rev. A. Reid acknowledged the testimonial in an able speech. The remaining items of the entertainment were—A recitation, “ The Lsper,” by the Rev. W. Baumber, recitations and readings by Messrs F. Gabites, J. Read, and J. Harris, interspersed with two songs by Mias Little. The schoolroom was well filled, and the applause was frequent and hearty.
