Captain Petrie; the Midlothian, 1085 tons, Captain Freer, and the Guy Mnnnering, 807 tons, Captain M'Laren, ’ are daily expected at this port from Newcaatlo. Tho largest cargo of coal that ever left Newcastle by sailing ship, is to arrive here in the ship British Teomau, viz , 2850 tons. This vessel left Newcastle on the 18th ult., on a draft of 22ft. 6in., and judging from the comments made by certain of the New South Wales papers, which state that the ship was towed over the Newcastle bar in “ perfect safety ” toe event has been regarded on “the other side” as slightly partaking of tho nature of a providential escape. As there are neither sandbanks nor bars to be feared at Lyttelton, the disposal of the ship British Teoman upon her arrival here will not excite the least feeling of apprehension. Nor will the fact cause any surprise that, all being well, she will be towed from sea right up the fairway into the inner harbor, and there berthed at once to discharge at one of the jetties, not in “ perlect safety” but “ without risk.”
