CHRISTCHURCH. Tuesday, March 7. [Before R. Beetham, Esq., R.M., and B, Westenra, J.P.] Drunkenness.—For first offences three men were fined each 6s, and one woman was cautioned and discharged. Fire Raising.—Ellen Fuller was charged with setting fire to goods in a dwelling bouse at Wellington on February 12th. _ She had been arrested by directions contained in a telegram from the police at that place. She was remanded to Wellington, to appear there on March 9th. Oinii Oases.— Jack v Duncan, claim £4 for balance of wages as scavenger. Mr Stringer appeared for plaintiff, Mr Joyce for the defendant. Plaintiff admitted having at one time owed the money, but claimed that it had been settled by an agreement written by plaintiff, which agreement he produced. Plaintiff swore positively that be had not written the document. The case was adjourned till next day defendant to produce evidence. Judgments went by default for plaintiffs in Q-rieshaber v M'Leod, £6 4i 6d ; Main v Scott, £3 9s 6d; Bobey v Graham, £lO ; Bobey v Thomson, £ll Is; Jack v Burrell, £8 ; Putman v Falvey, £4 7« 3d, and Trealeaven v Rogers, £2 10s lOd. Judgment was given for plaintiffs without opposition in Reese v Simpson, £5 14s 9d, and Reese v O’Donnell, 10s. Affiliation. —A ease of this kind, brought by Annie Hairs against Thomas Mullins, was dismissed, the Magistrate remarking that the evidence of the prosecutrix and her witnesses was utterly untrustworthy, and had, in fact, been proved false in its most important particulars.
