WAIMAKARIRI HARBOR BOARD.

The annual meeting of tho above was held on Tuesday evening. Present—Messrs Moore (chairman), Mathews, Wearing, Burnham, Eokersley, Smith, and Denton, A copy of tho Lyttelton Harbor Board accounts was laid on tho table. The Chairman reported the business done since last meeting, the annual accounts showing an income of £B6 7s 9d, added to a balance from last year of £26 13s 9d, as the receipts; and the expenditure for dredging £2l 16» lOd, secretary £l2, sundries £l7 12s Gd.Jleaving a balance in hand of £62 7s 2d. Tho assets were returned at dredging plant £403, outstanding accounts £133 12s, which, with the cash in hand, gave a total of £598 19s 2d. The accounts had been duly audited by Mr Ollivier, and were, on the motion of Mr Smith, seconded by Mr Eokersley, adopted. Mr Smith moved—- “ That Mr W. Eokersley be elected chairman,” staling that that gentleman, by his sound sense and judgment, had materially assisted the efforts of the Board, and he had no doubt would fill the office in question with every credit and satisfaction. Mr Mathews briefly seconded, and the motion being unanimously agreed to, the chairman elect thanked the Board, expressing a hope that they might ultimately be able to do something to advance the interests of the town and river. Mr Moore reported in reference to a matter of a lease in which Mr A. Thompson_ and_ Mr J. Goodman were interested, and his action was approved. Payments amounting to £2O 14s Id were passed. It was reported that the dredge Dauntless had been repaired, scraped, caulked, and painted. Mr Wearing’s motion to proceed with the question of borrowing under the powers of the Waimakariri Harbor Endowment Act waa again postponed. The “ Times ” was appointed the official paper for tho current year. In reply to Mr Smith, it was stated no steps had been taken to fill the vacancy caused by Mr Beharrell’s retirement, and it was agreed to consider tbe question of recommending a suitable gentleman to the Government for nomination, one member pointing out the necessity for having a full Board, and another the absolute requirement for their being always a quorum at meetings. Upon the motion of Mr Bmith, seconded by Mr Mathews, a vote of thanks was aoorrded to Mr Moore on his retirement from the position of chairman, to which that gentleman briefly responded. The Board then adjourned.
