EXHIBITION COMMITTEE.

A meeting of the Exhibition committee of the Industrial Association was held at the rooms last night ; Mr J. P. Jameson occupied the chair. Several apologies for non-attendance wore received. , , The Chairman said he had received a telegram from the Government Ktatiug that the request of the committee as to the Government exhibits being sent forward, would he considered so soon ns the Premier returned. Eeplies had been received from several pirts of the colony to the circular issued, expressive of sympathy with th - object the committee had iu view. The committee appointed to consider the question of judging and awards had had several interviews with the promoters, and had dm vn up a series of rc ulaliori.-i, wliicii were now submitted. The regulations were then road. The Chairman siid it was intended by the promoters to publish each day a programme of what was to ho done on that day by the juries of awards. He might say that he had received several applications for small spaces from intending exhibitors, which bo would hand to the several sub-com-mittees. , .. Blr Tombs brought before the meeting the question of the payment of the expenses of the various committees, and said that they had in Class H incurred some small expenses iu connection with printing, Ac., which they couslde-ed it was not fair they should bo called upon to pay, besides losing their time as well. _ Professor Bickortou agreed with Mr Tombs in the matter. A lengthy discussion ensued on the subject, aud ultimately Professor Bickorton said that the members ot the committee working as sub-committees were willing to bo -r the expenses if necessary. But he desired to point out that £3 0 had been saved from the former Exhibition, iu which the committee had taken the nsk ot failure. Tbo amount ho had spoken of had been put bv for holding an Exhibition on a larger scale 1 han the former one. The Exhibition now projected gave them, he contended, a far bettor one than conld bo got it they had confined their efforts to a local Exhibition, and it was their duty so far os laid iu their power to assist the .scheme of an Exhibition irrespective of the promoters. He suggested that a general meeting should be called of the association to con-ider the question of payment of the sections. The President said be would take the earliest opportunity of patting the matter in tram for a general meeting of the association to discuss the money question. Blr 11. E. Webb said, with regard to the ladies court, some funds would be required to put that court in order, and also for the juvenile court The Board of Education had given them £lO towards the expense of a bay for the children attending the schools in North Canterbury, bnt no provision bnd been made for those outside the education district. They had taken a hay for these children, aud it was probable that the subscriptions would cover tbo cost of the buy. The cost ot fitting up was yet to bo defrayed. The promoters, ho might say, had given one bay for tho ladies’ court. He might also report that in the scientific class a number of exhibits had been promised. Professor Bickerton said that in floral decorations there was a possibility ot a capital display. Blrs Duncan had promised to got np a floral trophy, and her manager had taken a very warm interest in the matter, so that they would very likely have a capital show of floral decorations iu the Exhibition. Mr Mitchell said ho desired to say that so far from being a help to the promoters, the committee of the Industrial Association had been a hindrance. He thought that the Association should, if they had any interest in the work, do what they could to forward the work ot the Exhibition.

A discussion then ensued on the linanoial position of the Association, tbo treasurer stating that a largo number of members were iu arrear with their subscriptions. The President said that he th nght it was not right for the Association to pat obstacles in the way of the jiromotors, or to seem to do so. Let them go heartily to work and help on the scheme, because tho promoters were doing a good thing for the place. After some farther conversational discussion, the meeting adjourned.
