SPORTING.
DUNEDIN RACES. [PBKBS ASSOCIATION TBLBQBAM.] DUNEDIN, February 22. There was a large muster of sporting men last night, but not a great deal of business done. Adamant was backed at 150 to 10, and shortly afterwards advanced to 12 to 1. Chancellor’s party offered to back the brown at 10 to 1 up to £IOOO, but the “ Books ” wonle not lay at that price. Mataku hardened considerably, and can now be considered first favorite, for although both he and Libeller are quoted at the same price, the colt is quite firm. No one is anxious to lay against him, while plenty of money can be had about Libeller. The odds offered last night were : 2to 1 Mataku and Libeller 11 to 2 Hilda 6to 1 King Quail and Chancellor 7to 1 Dauphin 10 to 1 Tasman and Lady Emma XI to 1 Tho Poet 12 to 1 Adamant 15 to 1 Nonpareil 25 to 1 T itania CHAMPAGNE STAKES. 2 to 1 on the field CHAMPAGNE AND CUP. 10 to 1 on toe field. Siesta and Matokm being freely backed steeplechase and cvr, 10 to 1 on the field.
