At the hulf- yearly meeting of the shareholders of the Standard Insurance Company, to be held on March 6th, the direotors will report that the business for the six months ended Deoembor 31st, after providing for all losses, expenses of management, and making provision for outstanding and unadjusted losses, shows a balanoe of £9143 14s 3d, which it will be recommended shall be appropriated as follows : Payment of a dividend at the rate of 7| per oent. per annum, £2812 10j ; to be carried forward to the reserve fund, £2500; to be carried forward to the next half year, £3831 4s 3d. Owing to unforeseen pressure of public business. Major Atkinson finds it almost impossible for him to go South on Monday as he intended, and it is most likely he will hare to wait for the steamer whioh leaves on Wednesday. Mr Johnston, however, will curtail his holiday trip to the East Coast, and is expected to return to Wellington tomorow, bo as to provide adequate Ministerial strength, only Messrs Atkinson and Diok being at present in town, and various matters of business requiring immediate attention.
