PRESBYTERIAN GENERAL ASSEMBLY.

This Day. The Moderator took his seat at 10 o'olook. The Maori mission report was laid on the table, from whioh it appeared that two missionaries are engaged laboring amongst the Maoris. A desire was expressed thit the congregations should contribute more liberally to this fund. An overture came from the Auckland Presbytery anent the marriage with a deceased wife's sister. After some remarks had been made thereon, tho Assembly declined to move in the matter. The report of the College committee and examination Board was then submitted, from which it appeared that the students had been carrying on their studies satisfactorily. Additional powers were given to the examination Board, enabling them to reoeive one discourse from every student each year in addition to discourses required by the Presbyteries. A speoial report of the Church property oommittee was given in. It was agreed to remit it baok to the committee, with the Bov. W. Gillies' namo added, and with a recommendation that during the year they would send to the Presbyteries particulars of what they would lay before the next session of Assembly. The finance oommittee's report on Assembly expenses fund was piven in, and it was resolved that the Presbyteries should see that this was more punctually attended to, as a large number of the congregations wore iu arrears to this fund.

A proposal for localising the Assembly at Wellington then oame up, bat as the majority of the returns from Presbyteries were found to disapprove, the Assembly agreed to fall from the proposal. The Assembly then adjourned at 2 p rn. till 7 o'clock this evening, when the questions of union with Otago and the Temperance question will be considered.
