WAIKATO RACES. AUCKLAND, February 17. The first day’s races of the Waikato Turf Club meeting were well attended. Handicap Hurdles, of 30 sovs.
HAWKE-3 BAY BACKS. NAPIKB, February 17. A O. and Ohikakarewa are scratched for all engagements, both at the Jockey Club’s and Bacing Club’s meetings; and Prim and Yankee for their engagements at the Bacing Club Meeting, DUNEDIN BACKS. DUNEDIN, February 17. Last night a special train from Christchurch brought down twenty-one hones for the race meeting. Ted Cutts had the Cup horses, Chancellor, Matatu, the Dauphin, the Champagne filly (by Cassivelaunus), Miss King, and Nautilus. Mason and Vallanoe have Mr Walters’ cup candidate Libeller, and Billingsgate, but Pisoatorius did not put in an appearance ; also the two Champagne competitors Armourer and Turquoise, both by Tubal Cain. Harry Fuller has four of Mr Hereford’s horses, Nonpariel (Cup), Siesta and Nonsense (Champagne), Holderness, engaged for various events. P. Butler has Te Ata, Amazon, Laertes, and Agent. There also arrived —Tubal Cain, Ace of Hearts colt, and O’Brien’s Tasman (Cup), Trovatore, and Flageolet. Training work will now begin in earnest. There is no betting worth mentioning on the races. Libeller and Dauphin, 4 to 1; Mataku and Chancellor, sto 1; Lady Emma, 6 to 1 for the Cup.

Harkaway 1 Sportsman 2 Publicans’ Purse Handicap, of 75 bovs. Paiamena 1 Dewdrop 2 Lara 3 Consolation Race, of 20 sovs. Kenilworth 1 Lara 2 Tawhoio was present at the races.
