Consols have declined to 99|-; New Zealand 5 per cent. 10-40 Loan, unchanged 104£, and 5 per cent. 1889 Loan 104 ; 4% per cent. 1879-1904 Loan is quoted to-day at 99|-, ex div. Tho total reserve in the Bank of England in notes and bullion is £9,900,000. The Bank rate of discount is unchanged at 6 per cent.; the market rate is SJ. Adelaide wheat, ex warehouse, has fallen to 55s ; New Zealand ditto is unchanged at 535. Adelaide flour, ex warehouse, 425. Australian Tallow—Best beef, 42s ; beat mutton, 48a. Scotch pig iron as declined Is; No. 1, f.0.b., in Clyde, is quoted at £sl per ton. The first series of wool sales for the present year will commence on tho 28th inst. The arrivals to date amount to 120.000 bales. The total probable quantity to he offered during the series, including 10,000 bales held over from November and December sales, is 310,000. The quantity of new arrivals to be offered during the series has been restricted by the importers’ committee to 300.000 bales. Australian hides, light weights, Id lower; heavy qualities in good demand. CONSTANTINOPLE, February 9. Bangers of a SpecialA telegram has been received here reporting that a special correspondent of the London “ Times ” in Albania has been murdered by the Arnauts, an Albanian tribe.
CAIRO, February 9, The Allied Controllers;
At a meeting of the Council of Ministers yesterday, Mr Colvin and M. Do Bliguies, Controllers General for Great Britain and France, formally protested against the Ministerial programme recently set forth and the action of the Cabinet in upholding the demand of the Notables for the control of the budget, on the grounds that the delegation of such power to the Assembly was a contravention of the international agreement with regard to Egyptian finances, and wonld limit the power of the Controllers General in dealing with the national debt. The Controllers General further informed the Ministers that they claimed the right to a voice in the preparation of the entire budget. CAPETOWN, February 8. More Fighting. Intelligence is to hand from the Transvaal to the effect that an armed force of Boers has crossed the boundary defined by the Anglo-Boer Convention into native territory, and attacked Monfsima. The natives, however, were in strong force, and repulsed the Boors. According to the latest accounts fighting still continued.
