DIOCESAN SUNDAY SCHOOL ASSOCIATION.

A general meeting of the members of the above association was held last evening in St. John’s schoolroom, Latimer square, for the purpose of taking into consideration the work of tho association during the ensuing year. The attendance was limited. Archdeacon Harris occupied tho chair, and after the usual devotional exercises, stated that at the annual meeting of the association held in Ootober last it was decided to slightly alter the future monthly meetings of the association with a view of rendering them more Attractive. At a meeting of the committee held in January the matter was considered, And members appointed to see those who had moved in the matter, and it was arranged that lectures should be delivered in the first three months of the year, the first of which should have been given by the Dean, but his duties in -connection with the Cathedral had pre vented his doing so. Ho thought it would be generally admitted that the association had not been so useful as it might have been in giving lectures to help teachers in the acquirement of correct ideas of Sabbath school tuition. He thought if the plan that obtained in similar societies in England could be followed it would be of great benefit. There severe! -competent persons went about giving lectures and model lessons to teachers. If addresses on Sunday School work were given at the monthly meetings, the practice pursued by tho incumbent of St. John’s in giving lessons to hia teachers was fraught with good. This was tho course adopted by Archdeacon Harper on the West Coast, and was very successful. He would now ask some one to speak to the question. Bov. H. O. M. Watson explained that at St. John’s out of forty-five teachers only seven or eight attended, and it had now merged into a general Bible olaes. Ha believed if a tea was held it would be a good thing. This -might be organised by the teachers of St. John’s and St. Luke’s schools, and after tea a model lesson of some twenty minutes’ duration could be given. Mr T. M. Gee regretted the model lessons I?ad ever been discontinued. The fact was the teachers did not like lectures, but lessons, as those not engaged in tuition all the week wanted some guidance in the art of teaching, and if the old plan was revived it would very good indeed. Bov, F, Knowles agreed with Mr Gee in the main, but he thought a class might be formed of the teachers, lessons in Old and Hew Testament subjects and the Bonk of Common Prayer should be given, and the -oldest of the teachers should then give a practical proof of how be would impart the salient parts of the lessons to the children. The Bev. G. J. Oholmondeley thought the ‘use of sets of diagrams, with practical illustrations, would be a good plan. The Bev. E. A. Mortimer wag of opinion that tho introduction of Sadler’s and Le Clero’s Church Teachers’ Manuals would lead to practical results. The Archdeacon was sure tho Bishop would be very glad to receive suggestions as to choice of books.

Bov. E. A. Scott thought if the various incumbents met their Sunday school teachers once a fortnight tho desired object might result.

Mr T. M. Gee proposed, Mr H. R. Webb seconded, and it was carried nem.. con. — "That a social meeting be held in St. John’s schoolroom on the first Tuesday, in March, when tea would be provided and the future work of the association definitely agreed apon.” Letters of apology for non-attendance wore read from the Revs. W. A. Pascoo and T. Fla veil.

After some remarks by the Rev. E. A. Lingard, the meeting was closed in the usual manner.
