CHRISTCHURCH HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.

The monthly committee meeting was held on Friday last, 3rd inst. Present—Mr E. 0. J. Stevens, president, in the chair, and Messrs Quntrip, Thomas Allen, J. Gray, H. Crooks, M. Murphy, D. Nairn, O. Marsh,and E. Jones, hon secretary. It was resolved to make the following arra-gements for the Autumn Show and annual distribution of prizes on March 2nd proximo : —The Show to be held at the Oddfellows’ Hall, Lichfield streets ; all exhibits to be within the building by 10 30 o’clock a.m. sharp ; to be open to the public at 1 o’clock and close at 9 o’clock p.m.; tickets of admission to be one shilling each, and if purchased previous to the day of the show, the hearers will participate in the chance of obtaining prizes in the annual distribution, of pot plants which will take place under the provisions of the Gaming and Lotteries Act, 1881. Messrs Armstrong, Bobson, and Dutton were elected judges of pot plants and out flowers ; and Messrs Ivory, Trounce, and Bobert McEVrlane to bo judges of fruit and vegetables. Messrs Grey, Burrell, and Murphy to be stewards of pot plants and out flowers, and Mr Crooks of fruits and vegetables. The sum of £lO w ® B voted for the purchase of pot plants, and the secretary reported that a number of members of the society had signified their intention to present a large number of fuchsias, variegated geraniums, ferns, and other pot plants to the prize fund. A letter was received from the treasurer, Mr Q. A, Beade, apologising tor his absence, and drawing attention to that part of rule X. which states “No competitor shall be allowed to enter the same kind of exhibit in more than one class.” In older to teat the opinion of the committee on the interpretation to be put on this part of the rule, it was moved—“ That an amateur should not be disqualified for exhibiting in both classes provided that the numbers and description 0 ( the exhibits are not alike in the two classes. The motion, after considerable discussion, was negatived. A committee was appointed to make the necessary arrangements f° r the Autumn Show and prize distribution, and the meeting adjourned
