[reutee’s telegrams.J SYDNEY, February 8. Still Ashore. All efforts to float the Fiona, the A.L.N. Company’s chartered steamer, which recently went ashore on the Seal Rocks Point, have proved unsuccessful. A heavy sea is now breaking over her, and she is expected shortly to become a total wreck. The vessel will be offered at auction to-day. MELBOURNE, February 8. Embezzlement. G. Gearey, the well-known cricketer, has heen found guilty of embezzling the funds of the Metropolitan Building Society, and has been sentenced to two years’ imprisonment. Small Pox. There are now seven smallpox patients from the Mirzaporo. All the sufferers are progressing favorably. Brewery Company. Applications are invited here for ■ 42,000 shares in Koast and McCarthy’s 1 Brewery Company, of Dunedin.
