AQUATICS.

The Junior Double Sculls Races in connection with the Union Rowing Club came off on Saturday. There was a good sprinkling of the fair sex present, and the boating fraternity was well represented. Mr B. B. Mansfield, vice-commodore to the club, acted as starter and judge. The following are the results, viz :

FIRST HEAT. North Bank, South Bank. Daphne. Dolphin, Bowley, C. F. (stroke) Woledge, B. H. (stroke) Lough, J. R. (bow) Ataok, W. G. (bow) Pengelly, W. (cox) Hinge, A. (cox) The Daphne jumped away at the start, and kept about a length ahead until reaching Oowlishaw’s, when the stroke of the Dolphin put on a spurt, and being well backed up by bow, decreased the lead by half a length, but they could never manage to get on even terms with the leading boat, the Daphne eventually winning by a quarter of a length. The plucky way in which Woledge and Atack rowed was greatly admired, as they were overmatched from the start, their opponents being much heavier boys. Hinge's steering was very good.

FINAL HEAT. South Bank, North Bank. Dolphin. Daphne. Bowley, G. F. (stroke) Wright, G. P. (stroke) Lough, J. R. (bow) Hinge, H. (bow) Pengelly, W. (cox) Hinge, A. (cox) The boats kept level for the first 200 yards, when the Dolphin slowly drew ahead, and going round Cowlishaw’s had a clear length to the good. This they increased to four length* until reaching the bridge, when Wright put on a good spurt, decreasing the lead to two lengths, but they could never get nearer, the Dolphin winning by a couple of lengths. Both coxswain* in this race steered very well.
