Hawea arrived yesterday morning from Nelson, Picton, and Wellington, and left in the afternoon for Akaroa and Timaru. The sa. Wanaka, that oarae in at 9 p.m. on Wednesday from Southern ports, did not get away until between 3 and 4 a.m. yesterday for Wellington, having to land a considerable quantity of freight. The Union Steamship Company’s a s. Ewgarooma, after undergoing her periodical renewing in the Port Chalmers dock, arrived here at 6 p.m. yesterday. The vessel’s appearance was most strikingly complimentary to the company’s superintendent, every part of her showing the evidences of thorough attention and care, and the vessel as a whole looking in every respect BOW. Captain Porter, in command of the above barque, whose arrival from London on Wednesday night was reported briefly yesterday, reports having left London on October Slat, and was two days in the Channel. Had to beat against S. W. gales to Madeira, where strong N.E. trade winds were taken and the Equator was crossed on the twenty.ninth day out. B.E. trade winds were pretty fresh, with a good doal of easterly in them, and Trinidad Island was sighted on December 7th. tho Cape of Good Hope nineteen days later. The Snares were sighted last Saturday. after a continuance of wretchedly dirty weather, aud a succession of galea and calms Tunning the easting down. A gale from the W.S W. brought the barqne past the Snares, and at noon on Sunday she was off Otavo Heads, where tho wind died completely away. A 'W.N.W. burster followed tho calm, and the voyage up tho coast was made under difficulties, the wind either coming down in hard squalls ahead or vanishing altogether. The vessel was in eight of the Heads on Tuesday, hut was blown off, and had nothing less than a hurricane throughout tho night. Captain Porter was here bo mo years ago in the ship William Davy. SHIPPING TELEGRAMS. New Plymouth, February 3. The Nelson, schooner, fourteen days from Sydney, arrived yesterday off Waitara. She is quarantined for two days. Auckland, February 2. Arrived—The German warship Moeve, from Sydney; HM. surveying schooner Lark, from Sydney, on a mission to survey the Auckland harbor and coast.
