The inquiry into the wreck of the City of Cashmere was resumed this morningSeveral witnesses were examined to show that the vessel bumped before an attempt was made to tow her out (a point on which there was a conflict of evidence), and as to whether the ship could not have been kedged back to her place. This the witnesses considered somewhat doubtful. The inquiry was adjourned for a week, to enable the lost cable to be lifted. The anchor has been picked up. The chain is buried in clay silt. The harbormaster says a diver must dig it out. The hull was offered for sale yesterday. Only £IOO was bid, and it was bought in by the captain for the owners, to be offered again.
Meeting of HouseholdersAC a meeting of householders last night there was a strong expression of opinion against the present system of electing Boards of Education. The principle affirmed was that committees should have votes on a sliding scale, according to the number of children. Sporting. Prize FiringAt the firing for the district prizes Volunteer Jones, of Wakari, made 74 out of a possible 84. The same marksman last year took first prize with 71.
