The Customs duties collected at Christchurch on Thursday, January 19th, wore as follows: Spirits, .£lO7 4s 4d ; tobacco, .£14511s 6d ; wine, JB2O 15s; sugar, £l7 ICs 9d ; tea, £3 8s 8d ; timber, £l7 13a ; goods by weight, £4O 2s 9d ; ad valorem, £l3B 2a ; other duties, £3l9a lOd. Total, £524 13s lOd. At tho usual sitting of the Waste Lands Hoard, held at Christchurch on Thursday, January 19th, sales were made as follows: — Ashley, 11a 3r 33p. Cash received, £23 18a 3d. GEAIN AND PEODUCE. The weather during the past week has been somewhat variable, but on the whole not unseasonable. Harvesting is now progressing actively in some early districts, and ere long small lots of new grain will be offering. In actual business wa have not heard of any transactions, as growers are all too busily employed to .come to town. Quotations may, therefore, bo considered nominal. Eye grass seed_ and cocksfoot have been offering in small quantities, and sales have taken place at 3a 3d for tho former, and 3id for the latter. Dairy produce is exceedingly quiet, and only a semi-retail business doing. COEN EXCHANGE, disport for the week ending Friday evening, the 20th instant: — Business in the grain trade during tho past week has been exceedingly quiet. Farmers are now busy with the harvest. Eeporta from tho ■various districts as to the yield are, on tho whole, good, tbongh doubtless there are great discrepancies. It is difficult to give exact quotations at present, as transactions have been few, and prices are not yet established. Wheat —Best milling samples of old wheat Tange from 4s 2d to 4s 3d per bushel. The new grain is not yet in the market, and prices are not yet established. Second quality old wheat janges from 3s 5d to 3s Bd, chick wheat from Sa 6d to 3j per bushel. Oats—Good short milling samples of old oats are saleable from 2s to 2a Id per bushel, Tartarian Is lOd to Is lid. Now oats are not yet in the market, and prices are not fixed. Barley—No business has as yet been done in this cereal. Grass-seed—Good clean samples are saleable at from 3s 6d to 4s per bushel. _ The quality of the samples coming to hand is exceedingly good. * COMMERCIAL TELEGEAMS. Auckland, January 20. Money is plentiful, but lately there has been more inclination manifested to enter upon new enterprise and develope fresh industries than some months ago, when the desire was to find safe and comfortable investments. Excellent reports are received from the country districts. The acreage of wheat is larger than last year, and the yield promises to he abundant. The Roar market is ent up. Southern millers are pushing off surplus of last year’s stock at rates which the local millers find it difficult to compete with legitimately. Dunedin, January 20. Mr J. B.
