BOARD OE HEALTH.

A meeting of the above was held at 3 p.m. Present—Messrs White, Vincent, Hubbard, Ashworth, E. Jones, Manning, L, Harper, and Dr Doyle. Mr W. Vincent was elected as chairman of the Board. The consideration of the Order in Council conferring additional powers on the Board with reference to the licensing of dairies, &o, was deferred.

A letter was read from the town clerk, Christchurch, asking that the medical officer of the Board would attend with the sanitary committee of the City Council to inspect the night soil depot, as complaints had been made as to the nuisance caused by the manufacture of manure there.

It was resolved to grant the request. A letter was read from the Sydenham Borough Council stating that their inspector had discovered a nuisance on the premises of Mr King in Selwyn street, caused by boiling fat.

The inspector of the Board reported that Mr King took every precaution to prevent any cffiuvia.

The same body also complained of the deposit of rubbish in Piper’s gravel pits, which was a great nuisance. The matter was referred to the medical officer.

With regard to Mr King’s soap and candle factory, it was decided that notice be given to Mr King that he must abate the nuisance or remove the factory. With respect to the complaint by the Sydenham Oonncil of the nuisance in Jackson’s Creek, the medical officer reported that he was unable to discover it. It was resolved that |the memo.[of the medical officer be forwarded to the Sydenham Borough Council. A letter was read from Dr. Townend calling attention to the nuisance caused by the accumulation of vegetable matter along the banks of the river near the Stanmore bridge. The matter was referred to the chairman of the Drainage Board. Several accounts were passed for payment. The finance committee of the Drainage Board was appointed as the finance committee of the Board of Health. The Board then adjourned.
