CHRISTCHURCH PRESBYTERY.
The Presbytery met in St. Andrew's Church on the 12th inst. The Bev. Mr Blake was elected Moderator of Presbytery for the next twelve months. In oonneotion with the call from Papanui to Mr Hawxwell, Mr Donald appeared for the Papanui congregation, and Messrs McOostrie and McMillan for Malvern. After these had addressed the Presbytery, Mr Hawxwell intimated his aooeptanoe of the call. It was agreed that Mr Hawxwell be released from the charge at Malvern, and be inducted at Papanui on 25th inst, Mr Slocorabo to preaoh, Mr Oairns to induct, Mr Blake to address the minister, Mr Eraser the people, and Mr Elmslie to give a statement of the principles of Presbyterianism. Mr Burnett was appointed moderator of the Malvern oharge, and to preach on Sabbath 15th. Mr Blake applied for, and received, authority to moderate in a call on the Peninsula at an early date. Messrs Hood, MeFarlane, and Cameron appeared as representing Alford Forest and Mount Somers districts, and spoke in favor of the continued union of the districts. Messrs MoOostrie, Boscoe, and Doyle, as representatives of Bangitata and Hinds, gave in a memorial recommending the union of Bangitata, the Hinds, Alford Forest and Mount Somers.
Mr Westbrooke intimated that the Bakaia oharge could do without Mount Somers, but not with Alford Forest.
It was agreed that the settlement of the case be postponed for twelve months in the hope that at no distant date the Presbytery would bo able to form another oharge ; and that in the meantime supply as far as possible be given to Bangitata and the Hinds. Messrs MoPherson and Storey handed in the result of the canvass of the congregation that had been made, which was the promise of £203, subscriptions towards support for a minister. It was agreed that the Church and district of Southbridge be erected into a separate charge ; that Mr Slocombe intimate this decision at Southbridge on Sabbath, 15th inst., and that Mr Hill be moderator of the congregation. The Clerk read a letter from Mr Horner, asking a oertifioate from the Presbytery, as he intended soon to return to Ireland.
A committee was appointed to draw up a minute expressive of the esteem in whioh Mr Horner is held by the members of the Presbytery and their regret at the prospeot of his departure from New Zealand. The Presbytery agreed to meet at Papanui on the afternoon of the 25th instant, to consider business for the General Assembly, which is to meet in Ohristchurch in JFebruary.
