The Customs duties collected at Christchurch on Tuesday, January 17th, were as follows: Spirits, £297 10a lid; cigars, £4 10a; wine, £26 13a 7d; beer, £5 6s 6d; sugar, £9B 16s Id ; tea, £7B Os 4d ; goods by weight, £3 8s 3d; ad valorem, £57 15a, Total, £570 2s Bd. COMMERCIAL TELEGRAMS. Dunedin, January 18. Messrs Guthrie and Larnach’s New Zealand Woodware Company received a telegram from their London house notifying an advance in the price of galvanised iron of 20s per ton; bar iron, 10a ; fencing wire, 10s. Inveecaegill, January 18. At the sale to day of the Edendale subdivision of block 1,37 farms ranging from 17 to 221 acres were offered, but of these four only were sold at an average price of £l2 per acre; 41 suburban sections were offered, of these 20 were sold at prices ranging from £l4 to £27 10a [per acre. 124 town sections were offered, and 34 sold at from £9 to £3l. They were mostly quarter acres. Edendale, which is an important railway centre, is 23 miles from Invercargill, and a dairy factory has lately beon established there. The land sold has been under cultivation for many years.
