[PBB PBESB ASSOCIATION.! THAMES, January 19. Native Land Court. Mr Sheehan is still here attending the Native Land Court. Through his influence the Government have secured a title to 78,000 acres in the Piako district. The land is of excellent quality, AUCKLAND, January 19. Vessel AshoreAt Kaipara Heads, on Tuesday afternoon, the signalman telephoned that a vessel wasj on shore} at Tory channel, Kaipara bar, with the loss of her rudder. Oapt, Smith, the pilot, immediately got steam up in the launch and went outside, and fauna the vessel to be the barque East Lothian, Captain Brophy, from Dunedin. He baa tried to cross the bar with a light westerly wind, but drifted on to the bar, losing the rudder by Lumping. The pilot steamer took her in tow, and before sundown had her safely anchored off the North Head pilot station.
King Tawhiao and Suite. The Maori King and suite arrived at twelve o’clock by steamer from Orakei, and were accorded a splendid reception by the Mayor on behalf of the citizens of Auckland, and the party were then driven round the town headed by the band. Thousands of people witnessed the proceedings and cheered the king lustily. WELLINGTON, January 19. Postage and Receipt StampsIt having been brought under the notice of the Government that penny duty stamps when affixed to letters posted have been refused by the Post Office officials, arrangements have now been made that penny postage and duty stamps may be used either for postage or on receipts. DUNEDIN, January 19. The Colonial Bank. The report of the Colonial Bank of New Zealand for the half year says that the not profit for the term is £17,593, or, with the balance from last half year, £19,990. From this has to be deducted £2051 for tax on note circulation and property tax, leaving available for distribution £17,939. The directors recommend a dividend of 7 per cent, per annum and to carry £IOOO to the reserve fund, raising it to £31,000, and leaving a balance to be carried forward of £2939. Branches of the Bank have been opened during the half year at Cambridge and Ximarn. Mr A. W. Morris retires from the Board at this meeting in accordance with the deed of settlement, and is not eligible for re-eleotiou until the next annual meeting, Mr George Gray Bussell is the only candidate for the vacant seat. Found Drowned. Patrick Qrany was found drowned near the wharf in Dunedin harbor this morning. He had been missing since Saturday. It is sup* posed he fell off the jetty at night.
