The flames were first observed from the centre of the auction room, in which it is said no fire has been lighted for six weeks. White’s Hotel was saved with difficulty, and the progress of the fire only stayed by a brick building. Kilpitrick's stock wn insured for £l7O in the iitandard, and the building (which belongs to Mr Boberson) for £350 in the North British. McLeod’s shop was insured for the £3CO in the Norwich Union.
