The brigantine Circe, which arrived from FooChow last night, reports that on Tuesday, January 3rd, when running in a S S.W. gala, a heavy sea broke on board on the starboard quarter, carrying away the starboard quarter house, also staving in the bulwarks and filling the cabin with water. J,.Robertson, A. 8., at the wheel, was knocked down, and found afterwards inse sible. After the water had cleared off the deck the boatswain was reported missing. A search for him amongst tho wreck of the honse was made, and he was found dead. The poor fellow was crashed almost to a jelly and his body frightfully mutilated. The body was carried below into the cabin ae soon as that compartment had been cleared of water, and the same night Captain Alexander read the burial service over it and committed it to the deep. The deceased’s name was Nicholas; he was a native of Greece, and had been in Mr C- W. Tamer’s employ on board the Circe for three years. Captain Alexander, bis officers and crew speak in warm terms of the late boatswain’s good qualities as a seaman and a shipmate. AMERICAN SHIPPING. From New York —The Trygina sailed on December Gth for Wellington and Lyttelton, with 8050 cases kerosene for Wellington and Lyttelton. The Stallworthy sailed on December Bth for Dunedin and Auckland, with 4000 cases kerosene for Dunedin and 3500 for Auckland. Vessels loading at New York :—Campsie Glen, for Timaru. probably clear about December 16th; Cordeilla, for Dunedin and Lyttelton, probably clear about January 10th. The Cordeilla baa the option of Wellington in place of Lyttelton as a second port, and the Campsie Glen carries mainly milling machinery, and will probably be filled up with lumber. Freights to How Zealand ports 25 cents per cubic foot measurement for quantities. SHIPPING TELEGRAMS. New Plymouth, January 12. The steamer Penguin arrived at an early hour this moraing, and left for Nelson and South at 4 a.m. She brings only the English letters by the mail, the newspapers not having been fumigated when she left.
