[bbutbb’s telegrams.] MELBOURNE, January 4. The English Eleven. The cricket match between the All England Eleven and the Combined Australian team was resumed to-day. The Englishmen continued their second innings with Scotton and Shaw at the wickets. The following are the scores of to-day’s play:—Scotton, not out, 50 ; Shaw, caught, 40; Pilling, bowled, 3; Peate, run out, 2. The visitors were all disposed of 308 runs. The homo team commenced their second innings, and when the stumps were drawn had lost three wickets for 127 rnns. The match was drawn, the Australians requiring 156 runs to win. Shipping. Sailed, this evening—Arawata, for the Bluff. The English cricketers are passengers by her. SYDNEY, January 4. Sailed this afternoon—Hero, s.s., for New Zealand. Smallpox Patients. All the smallpox patients are new progressing favorably towards recovery. BRISBANE, January 4. Ministerial. Mr Archibald Archer has been appointed to the Colonial Treasurershi.p, temporarily held by the Hon. Thomas Mcllraith vice Sir Arthur Palmer, who recently accepted the Presidency of the Legislative Council. Mr Archer vill also hold the portfolio of Public Instruction.
