I |Mr Joseph Anderson delivered the first of his second series of Rhind Lectureo in Arch-a-alogy in Edinburgh on October 17ih. The subject chosen was "Scotland in Pagan Times," and the lecturer pointed out from the " finds " of silver and other ornaments that have been made in the Northern and Western Islands, the influence both of a Scandinavian element in the population and of Oriental oommerce at some time subsequent to the beginning of the tenth century. Dr. Pickering, the resident English phvsioian, has a work on Monaco in tbo press. It is illustrated by Mr M. Trautsohold, and desoribes the special advantages which tho topographical disposition of the principality gives in the treatment of disease, as well as the various other attractions of this wellknown winter resort.
