The following is the latest betting on the Champion Stakes, to bo run on Monday, January 2nd : —Wheatear, 5 to 2; Wellington, 3 to 1; Santa Claus, 7 to 1. The following horses are also probable starters: —St. Peter, Royal Maid, Coriolanus, Kohinoor, Commotion, Marmora, Martindale, Somerset and Monmouth. The Exhibition Promoter. Mr Twopeny, one of the promoters, will leave Melbourne by the Arawata, to arrange for the opening of the International Exhibition at Christchurch. March 15 th has been fixed as the date for the ceremonial. Over 200 applications fer space have already been received from England by intending exhibitors. Commodore Erskine has promised to take the Australian squadron to Lyttelton at an early date, and will assist at the opening ceremony. It is expected that the Exhibition will he very successful.
