HOSPITAL BOARD.

An ordinary meeting of the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board was held on Wednesday afternoon at four o'olock. Present—Mr H. Thomson, M. H.R. (Chairman), The Mayor of Ohristchuroh, Mr J. G. Hawkea and Dr. Turnbull.

The following report was read:— The Hospital committee baa the honor to report that during the fortnight ending 24th Deo. twenty-one patienta were admitted into the Hospital, and thirty-six discharged, leaving fifty-seven patienta in the institution. During the same period four deaths oc:urred. For the corresponding period of last year there were sixty-seven patients in the Hospital. In reference to the letter of Mr A. W. Parsons, re the late John Steele, referred to Hospital oommittee, the committee reported as follows :

It has always been the custom for patienta to hand all monies in their possession to the House Steward on entering the Hospital, and in case of decease, all liabilities to th« institution have been discharged, and any balance and effecta handed over to the Public Truatee, unleaa proper proof of executorship haa been furnished to the House Steward. The Hospital Committee thinks this perfectly just, and sees no reason for altering the custom. Report approved. The following report from the committee appointed to consider the tenders for supplies to the hospital cottage, Akaroa, was brought up and approved:—"The committee have caused full enquiries to be made re the prosent retail prices of the ordinary articles of consumption. As these prices are much higher than appear in the attached schedule, the committee recommend that the following tenders be acoeptod : —Bread, meat, groceries, milk and fuel, Henry Billons; interments, Cullen and Walker." It was reported that there were three patients in the Akaroa Hospital, and none in the Lyttelton casual ward. The eppointment of committees was postponed until next meeting.— The secretary reported that the amounts paid into the public account since the Board took offioe in 1879 by the various institutions under its oontrol were as follows: —Christchurch Hospital, £1741 3« 2d; Akaroa Hospital, £193 2s 8d ; casual word, £143 Is 93 ; Canterbury Orphanage, £785 Is 9d ; Ashburton Home. £lO 12s ; charitable aid, £75 18s 7d ; total, £2948 19s lid. Some discussion took ptaoe as to the desirability of urging upon the Government that the Hospital should receive credit for these payments. Ultimately it was resolved to forward a oopy of the return to the Government, and ask them to what accounts the various amounts had been credited.—The tender of Messrs Gould and Co. for the supply of drugs for next year was accepted.—On the motion of Mr J. G. Hawkes, Mrs Marriatt was appointed matron to the hospital at a salary of £6O a year.— After disposing of some charitable aid cases, the Board adjourned.
