The Harbor Board’s steam tng Lyttelton returned to Port yesterday morning, after ■ towing the ship City of Cashmere down to Timarn. The Union Steamship Company’s s.s. Penguin arrived from Port Chalmers, and the s.s. Waitaki from Wellington and Northern ports on Saturday. The Penguin left for the North and the Waitaki for the Sooth the same - evening. It is worthy of remark (says the "New ■Zealand Times ”) that although the Union Company’s steamers now carry large numbers of passengers nearly every trip, none of them • have yet eclipsed the little Phoebe, which some time ago took 500 passengers on the trip between Lyttelton and Wellington, and, what is more, everyone had a place to sleep in, and meals were ’ ready at the appointed hours.
