THEATRE ROYAL.

Miss Pomeroy and her company re-appeared at the Theatre Royal on Saturday evening to a good house. The piece chosen for tho occasion was W. S. Gilbert's play of “ Pygmalion and Galatea.” Miss Pomeroy's Galatea, though in parts very good, was yet, as a whole, disappointing. Her conception of the character appears to be somewhat hard and crude, lacking the softness which ia so essential to a successful rendition of the character. In the scene with Obrysos, in too second act, Miss Pomeroy lost sight of the fact that Galatea asks tho questions she does in a wondering manner, and would hardly enter so fully into the merriment which her naive remarks causes in Ohryaoa as Miss Pomeroy did. In the last act, where she learns from Pygmalion that be no longer loves her, Miss Pomeroy played with much pathos and power. Miss Lizzie Laurecoa was considerably overweighted with the part of Oynisoa, though she gave a fairly good rendering of it in parts. Miss Bessie Vivian made an excellent Daphne, and Mias Hettie Lambrette was good as Myrine. Mr Flemming has not since bis return to New Zealand appeared to sneb disadvantage as in Pygmalion. Throughout tbs whole piece he was stilted and unnatural, and as a consequence his performance of the character was not snob a success as those we have previously seen him in, Mr Hoskins was excellent as Ohrysos, and Mr Hamilton made a capital Lenoippe. The farce of ** A. Capital Match,” in which Mr J, J. Wallace was very successful as Mr Sunnysido, preceded the play. To-night Miss Pomeroy appears as Lady Gay Spanker in “ London Assurance,” a character in which elsewhere she has mode a hit.
