CHRISTCHURCH DISTRICT DRAINAGE BOARD. Hereford street, December 22nd, 1831. TO THE CBATEMAN CHRISTCHURCH DRAINAGE BOARD, SIR, —As directed by your minute of the 20th inat., I have the honor to furnish the following Report, showing the nature and position of the Sewers as laid to date:— STORM WATER SEWERS. 1. A concrete sewer from a point on the South Belt opposite Madras street, thence alorg the Belt to its junction with the Ferry road, thence down the Ferry road to its outfall at Bell’s Creek, being a distance of 133 chains. _2. Smith’s road (off Ferry road)—An IBin pipe starting at a point seven chains north of Ferry road, and joining the main sewer. 'i. Ollivier’s road (off Perry road)—A 12in pipe starting at a point eight chains north of Ferry road, and joining the main sewer. 4. William street (off Ferry road) —A 15in pipe starting from Lawrence street, and running north to join the main sewer, a distance of 22i chains. 5. East Belt—A concrete sewer from Tuam street, thence sontherly along the belt, joining the South Belt sewer, already described, at the junction of the East and South belts, a distance of 26;chains. 6. Lower High street (city), a ISin pipe, starting from a point 8 chains west of East Belt, and joining the East Belt sewer. 7. On Gasworks road, from Andrew street to Going’s road, an ISin pipe a distance e£ Sichains. 8. Thence along Gasworks road, and joining South Belt sewer, a concrete sewer for a distance of 41 chains. 9. From old city drain to South Belt sewer beween Manchester and Madras streets (through Messrs Buckly and Marshall’s land), a 12m pipe a distance of 3 chains, 10. From old city drain to South Belt sewer between Colombo and Manchester streets (through Messrs Ford and Ogden’s land), a 12in pipe a distance of 3 chains. 11. Id Montreal street, from old city drain to South Belt sewer, a 12in pipe a distance of 3 chains. 12. From Railway culvert (Coker's drain) to South Belt sewer, a ISin pipe a distance of 7i chains. The last four described pipes connect with that portion of the South Belt storm water sewer constructed by the City Council. The storm water from all the foregoing sewers discharges into Bell’s creek, and thence into the Heathcote River. 13. A concrete sewer from a point in Colombo road, Sydenham, opposite Third street, thence northwards along Colombo road to First street, thence along First street to Madras strest, thence across the railway and along Madras street ts the River Avon, being a distance of 116 chains.

14. In Windmill road, starting from a point 20 chains south of South Belt, a 15in and 18in pips to the Sonth Belt, and thence 15. A concrete sewer along Antigua street to the River Avon, a distance of 32 chains. 16. In Stanmore road, starting at Gloucester street, and running north to the River Avon, a 9in pipe a distance of 21i chains. (This is the extent of the storm water sewers south of the Avon river ) 17. On the Papanui road, an 18in pipe starting 10 chains north of Norman’s lane, thence in a southerly direction to St Alban’s creek, at Norman’s lane, a distance of 10 chains.

18. From Merivala lane through Carlton terrace to the Eiver Avon, being an IBin pipe far a distance of 9£ chains, and a concrete sewer for the remainder—viz., 15 chains. 19. From St. Alban’s creek, thence along St. Alban’s lane, returning to the same creek near Springfield road, a 12in and 18in pipe, a distance of 32 chains.

20. From Henley street, thence along Crescent road, a 12in pipe to High street east, thencealong High street east, and thence in a southerly direction to St. Alban’s creek, a distance of 9 chains. 21. From Free’s creek on Colombo road north, a 12in pipe to the North Belt, a distance of 6 chains, to join the concrete sewer on the North Belt; thence 22. A concrete sewer along the North Belt eastward to Madras street, thence down Madras street to Salisbury street, thence along Salisbury street eastward to the river Avon, a distance of 574 chains. 23. In Salisbury street a 12in pipe, 7.82 chains west of Madras street, running eastward and joining the last-named sewer at Madras street. 24. In Eilmore street a 12in pipe, starting from Free’s creek by St. Luke’s Church, thence along Eilmore street in an easterly direction to Madras street, thence along Madras street to the river Avon, a distance of 10 chains. (From 13 to 24 inches discharge the storm water into the river Avon.) SEWAGE SEWBKS. For sewage only the following works have been executed : 1. A concrete sewer, starting on the North Belt at Colombo street, thence running along the belt eastward to Madras street, then 2o south to Rilmore street, joining the sewer next described, being a distance of 56 chains. 2. A concrete sewer, starting from the junction of Victoria and Eilmore streets, thence in an easterly direction along Eilmore street to the river Avon, a distance of 38 chains. 3. Here a syphon, connected with iron manholes, has been constructed to taka the sewage under the river and into the main sewers south of Avon, just constructed by contract, and consisting of 4. A concrete fewer from the river Avon at Oxford terrace to Eilmore street, thence along Eilmore street to the East Belt, thence down the Belt to Tuam street east, thence in an easterly direction along Tuam street east to the pumping station. 5. Also a concrete sewer starting on the South Belt at Antigua street, thence in an easterly direction along the belt to the East belt, thence northerly along the East Belt, and joining the sewer last described, opposite Tnam street east, being a total length of 241 chains. 6. At the pumping station a tank has been constructed. The engine and boiler houses are complete, and the erection of the engines nearly so.

7. Prom the pumping station to the Sandhills, a distance of 142 chains, a 24in cast iron pipe is being laid, about twenty chains remaining to he done. To this point the sewage will be pumped from the tank already mentioned, and from thence it will flow through an open drain to the land which it is propose to prepared for its reception. Sewage pices have been laid in the following streets —(these are all in connection with the sewage sewers last described, consequently the contents of same will reach the Sandhills)— viz. 8. Crescent road, from St. Alban’s lane to Edgwaro road. High street, from Crescent road to Edgeware road. Papanni road, from St, Albans lane to North Belt. Springfield road, Colombo road, from Edgeware road to North Belt. Holly road, from Springfield road to Colombo road. Clare road, from Papanni road to Springfield road. Berry street, Edgeware road, from Springfield road to Colombo road. North Belt, Papanni road 4o;Colombo road ; also 9. In the City, the following streets north of the Eiver Aron Madras, Salisbury (part), ] North Belt (part), Biimoro,Peterborough (part), 1
