MAIL NOTICES.
Mails close at the Chief Post Office for the following places (subject to the necessary alteranone) rb under : WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 21. For Australian Colonies, per express train to Port Chalmers (connecting with Arawata), at 7 THURSDAY, DEBEMBER 22. For Akuroa and Otago, per Hawea, at 9.40 a.m.; late fee letters, 9.50 a.m. ; guard's van, 10.25 a.m. tram. For Northern ports, per Albion, at 1.45 pm. ; late fee letters, 2 p.m. ; guard's van, 2.40 p.m. train. Notice. —On and after Nov. 1, 1881, money orders will be issued in New Zealand payable at any town in Germany, and after Ist January next Money Orders will be issued in New Zealand payable in the United States of America. Postage stamps may now be used for stamping receipts under the Stamp Act, 1875, but receipt stamps are not accepted in payment of postages. Notice.—Monday, 26th inst., and Monday, 2nd January, will be kept as Post Office holidays, and the offices will open for one hour only, namely, from 9 to 10 a.m., for sale of stamps and registration and delivery of letters. The chief office will open from 8 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, 21th, and Saturday, 31st instant, for delivery of letters to applicants, as there will be be no delivery by letter carriers on the following Mondays.
