Mr Pooley, the builder, was insured for £IOOO in the Colonial office, half of this amount being reinsured. WELLINGTON, Deoember 20. The Natives at Parihaka. The Government have received a telegram frem Parihaka that the Natives had a feast there on the 16th, but there was no speaking. It is understood that no formal Native meetings havo been held anywhere up the coast. It is also stated that Mr Bryce has met most of the Wanganui Natives who were sent from Parihaka to their own homes, and that they appeared very cheerful. Two Wanganui chiefs, who had been known to be the most surly amongst the Natives at Parihaka, appear to have got over their pouri. OAMABU, December 20. The Lotteries ActThe first oase under the Gaming and Lotteries Act was heard to-day, when Thomas Wilson was charged in the Resident Magistrate's Court with promoting a half-crown sweepstakes on the race-course. He was fined 5s without coats. DTJNEDIN, December 20. Mining News. The Tipporary Company, at Macetown, sent down a cake of gold weighing 501 ounces. INVEROARGII/L, December 20. Supreme Court. The half-yearly sitting of the Supreme Court was opened to-day. Thomas Kennedy, for stealing Masonic jewellery of the total value of £2O, was sentenced to six months' hard labor.
