U. 0.0. T LANCASTER PARK CLUB. This match was concluded on Saturday on the Association grounds, and ended in a victory for the U. 0.0. by four wickets. The U. 0.0. commenced their second innings with 131 runs to win, and Messrs Ashby and Hartland began merrily. The former made 14 when he was given out leg before, but the latter was not dismissed till he had put together 61 in his best style. The next two wickets fell rather quickly, and there appeared to be a chance of Lancaster Park polling the match out of the fire, when Easton and Mainwaring made a stand, and together with Horwood totted up the number required. The bowling of Lancaster Park was rather weak, but some of their men were very smart in the field, notably H. Loughnan. The following is the score : LANCASTER PARK.
On Saturday the match between the eleven of the Midland and the remainder of the club was concluded, the game being drawn rather in favor of the Eleven. On resuming, the state of the game was that the Eleven had put together 128 in their first innings, the so-called Eighteen (in reality numbering several over twenty) had scored 151, and the Eleven had commenced their second innings. The Eleven at once began to make runs rapidly, and were not disposed of until they had reached 223. Of these Strange made 90, Philpott 34, Fowko 51, and Fairhurst 11. With 200 to tie the Eighteen went in for their second innings, and when stumps were drawn (owing to the rain) bad scored four wickets down for 59. Of thsse Whiting made 23 (not out), A. P. Hill 15, and Horner 11.
A match between the Addington end Lyttelton Oluba was played on Saturday last, and resulted in favor of the former by 122 runs. Addington having won the toss, went first to he Wickets, and were not disposed of till 144 runs had been registered ; the principal scores being—Ashby 29 (not out), Baker 29, B. H. Turner 12, Taylor 11, Smith 10, Ogier 10, and Johnson 11. The Lyttelton team were soon disposed off by Wheatley and Turner, the former getting six wickets, and the latter three. The scores were—Addington, 144; Lyttelton, 22. The end of this year and the beginning of January will be marked by some unusually interesting cricket.
