William Gabb, a farmer, who was suffering from blood poisoning, by pricking his hand with a knife used in soraping sheep, had to have bis arm amputated in the hospital. The Suspected Burglar. In the case against Plummer, for sending a threatening letter to Mrs Dobson, Plummer desired to telegraph to Dunedin touching certain matters, but the Magistrate said that the reply would not be admissable as evidence. Valuable Imports. The mail steamer brought a quantity of quail for the Auckland Aoolimatisation Society, and two boxes of silk cocoons from Japan for the Colonial Secretary. Aquatic. Two rowers, Carter and Floyd, have arrived from Sydney, to compete at the Meroury Bay regatta. Messenger is inclined to oome if a match could be arranged with Hearn, and so also would Pearce if sufficient inducement was offered. NAPIER, Deoember 14. Crime. At the Supreme Court, Bendle, for the Post Office robberies, was acquitted on one charge and sentenced to six years on another. Other oharges are to be heard. WELLINGTON, December 14. CrimeThe Supreme Court has been occupied all day in the arson case against Lewis and Abraham Moses. At 10.30 to-night the jury returned a verdiot of " Not guilty." DUNEDIN, December 14. A New TroubleWild dogs are stated to be beooming numerous in some parts of the interior. One hundred and fifty have been killed on one station during last year. Prize Firing. The Otago Rifle Association's annual meeting began to-day. Fifty-four men oompeted in the firet match, whioh was won by Volunteer Willcooks, of Clutha. The second match was won by Lieut. Frasteer with 85 out of a possible 105. He was second in the first match. Personal. The "Herald" says that Dr. Macdonald reoeived letters by the mail strongly advising him to stand for the reotorship of the Edinburgh High School, with a salary of £IOOO, but has declined. The Brink AgainA woman named Catherine Thompson suddenly fell dead in a house in Stafford street this evening. She had been addicted to drink.
