[raa press association.] AUCKLAND, December 7. Not EligibleMr Laing hes retired from the City West contest. He was not on any roll in the colony. WANGANUI, December 7. ElectoralMr Watt, one of the candidates for Wanganui, addressed a large meeting of the electors last night. A vote of thanks and confidence was moved and seconded, followed by an amendment of thanks and no confidence. Mr Bryce, who was present, was celled for by a section of the audience, and when he came on to the platform a great deal of uproar ensued. Cheers and hisses, and mingling cries were raised of “Not an elector,” “Ministerial influence,” “ Undue influence,” “ Turn-coat,” and a hearing was refused. The chairman, after obtaining silence, ruled that Mr Bryce, not being an elector, wee not entitled to speak. The amendment was carried. DUNEDIN, December 7. The Licensing Act. In respect to the prosecution re Sunday trading, the city Bench to-day decided that the Licensing Act does not prohibit the keeping open of the door of an hotel or access to the bar, or a person being there to solve travellers.
